Teen girl saves disabled woman from drowning Priyatha didn’t think twice before she jumped into the river and swam towards Mary who was beginning to drown.

Chotty, Kottayam: Teenager Priyatha Haridas has become the darling of her small village of Chotty, near Kanjirapally, after she saved a middle-aged woman from drowning in a nearby stream.

Mary (56) fell into the Thriveni stream on Saturday at around 12 noon while she was bathing at the ghat. Meanwhile, Priyatha, who lives nearby, came out of her house hearing the noise but could see only a bucket there.

When she looked further into the stream, Priyatha saw that Mary, who is intellectually disabled, was being carried away by the rapid stream. Priyatha didn’t think twice before she jumped into the river and swam towards Mary who was beginning to drown. The young girl was able to catch Mary by the hand and she held on to a rock until help came.

Priyatha’s mother Anitha who came rushing after her daughter helped the duo get safely onto the banks.

Priyatha, a class 10 student at the Kanjirapally St Mary’s School, is the daughter of late Haridas.
