Thrissur: Thrissur, the land of poorams, witnessed a different kind of fireworks Saturday.
Abeesh P. Dominic, a native of Poonjar in Kottayam district, broke 124 coconuts with bare hands in a minute, and muscled his way into the Guinness World Records.
Though the time limit stipulated for a record was 60 seconds, he managed to smash 145 coconuts with single hand in less than 50 seconds. But the number of coconuts fully crushed in designated one minute was 124.
He achieved the feat during a spectacular show of power held at Sobha City in Thrissur.
The previous record of 118 coconuts smashed in one minute was held by German Muhamed Kahrimanovic.
Abeesh has already etched his name in the Universal Record Forum (URF), Limca Book of Records, American Setter Record and the Assist World Record in different categories.
He has also pulled off several unique and risky stunts such as breaking hockey sticks and helmets with bare hands, pulling a bus to a distance of 50 meters using his teeth, stopping a pedestal fan running at a speed of 2000 rpm, etc.
Thrissur Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan inaugurated the event. Eminent personalities including URF Asian jury member Sunil Joseph, and Sobha City general manager Wilson Antony were present on the occasion.
The video footage and other evidence of his achievement has been sent to Guinness World Records, which is expected to recognize the record in six months’ time.
Abeesh works at the mechanic section of the Eerattupetta KSRTC depot on contract basis.
