Thiruvananthapuram: One of the key accused in the murder of former radio jockey Rajesh Kumar has been nabbed by the Kerala police. Appunni, the second accused, was taken into custody from Tamil Nadu.
Appunni is suspected to have been directly involved in the attack. He is believed to be an aid of Alibhai, who is already under arrest. Appunni had been hiding in Chennai for the past two weeks.
Alibhai was allegedly hired by a Qatar-based businessman, Abdul Sathar, with whose wife Rajesh had an affair.
Alibhai had reached Kerala a day before Rajesh was hacked to death in his studio at Madavoor in Kerala capital on March 27.
Alibhai, the main accused, told the police that he had killed Rajesh for personal reasons and was not paid or hired to commit the crime. He claimed that he carried out the crime out of revenge for Rajesh who wrecked the family of his dear friend Sathar, who was also his business partner.
Sathar and his wife had split up after she got 'too close' to Rajesh. According to Alibhai, that hurt him and he wanted to finish off Rajesh. But the police claim evidence that Sathar had paid the money to the killers.
