Dubai: The government has honoured a youngster who has managed to shed 10kg in just 30 days. 34-year-old Filipino man Romal Maniyok has won 10 grams of gold for his efforts to lead a fit and healthy life. He has shed his body weight as part of the Dubai fitness challenge.

The Al Ghurair Center in Deira has initiated the fitness challenge to promote health consciousness among foreigners. The company claimed that about 9500 participants took part in the challenge. It was announced that a gram of gold would be gifted for each kilogram of body weight reduced.

Romal, who won 10 grams of gold for shedding 10 kg of bodyweight said that he had always wished to be fit by reducing the extra flab. He, however, never got the time to hit the gym regularly. However, Romal, used to walk 3-5 kilometres a day. As part of the fitness challenge, he began to walk up to 10 kilometres a day which helped to significantly reduce his body weight.

He limited non-vegetarian food to just the weekends and used to regularly attend the free fitness sessions that were conducted at the Al Ghurair Center on holidays.

Romal's friends are amazed by his extraordinary transformation. The second season of the fitness challenge was conducted following an appeal by the Dubai crown prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Muhammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoom.
