She made her film debut in 2017 alongside lady superstar Manju Warrier in Udhaharanam Sujatha. The movie's success did not put Anaswara Rajan's life into fast track. She waited for another two years to get a memorable role in Vineeth Sreeivasan-starrer Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, which established her acting credentials.

Now Anaswara is eagerly awaiting the release of Vaanku (Azan), a movie directed and scripted by women, in which she plays the powerful role of Rasiya. The rising star, however, says she was an accidental actress. “I never thought that I would become an actress. I am grateful to the people around,” she tells Onmanorama in a freewheeling interview.

Edited excerpts:

Three years and 8 films. Are you happy?

Acting in eight movies in a short span was something that I never expected. What more do I need? All I can say is that I am enjoying this phase.

How do you see your characters?

Of course, it takes some time to get accustomed to the characters and equal amount of time to get out of it. I could easily relate with the roles of Athira (Udhaharanam Sujatha) and Keerthy (Thannermathan Dinangal) and understand the pulse of the characters. But Raziya's role in Vaanku is a bit different. It is more matured and a serious subject. It tells the story of four girls, but the movie develops through my character. I enjoy living in the world of my characters.

What made you take up Vaanku?

Firstly, it is the Unni R factor and secondly it is Kavya. The movie is an adaptation of Unni's short story with the same name. It is blessing to get an important role at this age.

I was initially hesitant to take up this role. My exams were going on and I doubted if I would be able to do justice to the character. But director Kavya Prakash gave me the confidence.

Going by the trailer, Vaanku tells about the dream of a girl. What's Anaswara's dream?

Before coming into movies, I wanted to meet Dulquer Salmaan. It remained dream for quite sometime until I met him recently. Now, I dream of getting an award.

Are you active on social media platforms?

I am quite active on Instagram. I am an active Boomerang user too.

How did the first break happen?

I used to do mono acts and plays since my school days. I got a chance to act in a short film by Dulquer Salmaan’s makeup artist Ratheesh Payyannur, before stepping into films. I applied when I saw an advertisement calling for child artistes for Udaharanam Sujatha. They picked me from 6,000 applicants.

What are the best things happened to you after your entry into movie?

Friendship. I got some amazing friends and with Vaanku, it has just got stronger. Also, I could travel to a whole lot of places.
