Tirur: After the Maruti-turned-Mercedes, the Motor Vehicle Department has seized yet another heavily modified car from Tirur in Malappuram, now a Mitsubishi Lancer turned into a Ferrari.
The modified vehicle was found from Thazhepalam in Tirur. It belonged to one Rashid of Kodakkallu in Thirunavaya.
The department has told the vehicle’s owner to convert it back to its original condition within 15 days or face heavy penalty and cancellation of its registration.
Authorities estimate the cost of converting the Lancer into Ferrari at as much as Rs 4 lakh.
In the earlier case, where a Maruti Baleno was styled into a Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Motor Vehicle Department has made its owner to convert the car back to its original form.
The department has started investigations into gangs that could be selling such modified vehicles as expensive models.
It has also intensified searches to find out similarly modified vehicles, Tirur Joint RTO C.U. Mujeeb and motor vehicle inspector K. Gopakumar said.
