Woman killed as bus knocks down scooter

Kollam: A 21-year-old woman, who had been the sole breadwinner of her family, died in a scooter accident as she was pillion-riding with a police officer who was her late father's friend.The duo's vehicle was knocked down by a private bus on Sunday morning.

The deceased Bindumol belongs to Koppottil Padinjattathil, Thekkumbhagam, Chavara. She was working at an event management firm at Mevaram, Kollam.

She had sought a lift from police officer Anil Kumar as he was on the way to his workplace in Thiruvananthapuram. The accident occurred as their scooter was coming out of a fuel station at Kavanad.

Bindu fell on to the road and suffered a head injury. She died though she was rushed to a private hospital. Kumar, 45, a resident of Ayyankoikkal, sustained minor injuries.

Bindumol's father G. Biju had collapsed and died as he was fishing three months ago. The family was surviving on Bindumol's income alone after the death of the father. The block panchayat has decided to provide them with a house.

Bindu is survived by her mother Mary and sister Beena.
