Alappuzha: With heavy rain lashing Kerala for the past two days, the Kerala tourism department has decided to postpone the Nehru trophy boat race, which was scheduled to be held on Punnamada lake on August 11.

In a press note, the department said on Thursday that the water level in the lake will rise substantially following torrential rain and floods, and this will affect the boat race, which signifies the beginning of Onam season in Kerala.

Fresh dates for the four-day event will be announced soon after the water level in Punnamada lake subsides, the note said.
