The first Padma Café, part of a hotel chain planned by the Nair Service Society (NSS) to empower women, will open doors in Adoor soon.
The inauguration of the cafe will be held by NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair on March 4.
The cafe will be set up next to the Adoor taluk union building under the aegis of NSS taluk union and taluk Mannam social service society.
The functioning of the cafe will be reviewed and changes, if necessary, will be carried out so that the project can be replicated at other places.
The cafe will have a beautifully decorated dining hall, a kitchen that will follow all cleanliness norms and enough parking space, besides hosting a rural mart that will sell products made by women like curry powder, bakery items, lamp oil, and handicraft items.
Food will be prepared using milk sourced from women's self-help groups' dairy farms, pesticide-free vegetables from farms, unadulterated curry powder, good quality rice and wheat flour, among others. This will help the cafe to provide food at reasonable rates, said taluk union president Kalanjur Madhu.
The women’s self-help group will also provide free food from the café to 25 poor patients at the Adoor general hospital every day. This project too will be inaugurated by Sukumaran Nair on March 4.
