Mary Ann Thomas and her friend Janiel Bayle

Iritty: Mary Ann Thomas loves cycling. Daughter of a couple settled in the US, Mary Ann gave a surprise to her mother’s relatives when she arrived at their house in Iritty after a 5,600-km cycling trip across India.

Mary Ann, 28, who works as a nurse in the US, is the daughter of Thresya, belonging to Kiliyanthara in Iritty and T J Thomas of Pathanamthitta. She had arrived at New Delhi airport from the US accompanied by a friend Janiel Bayle and both headed to Ladakh on bicycles, starting their expedition in India. From there, their trip covered Srinagar, Amritsar, Jaipur, Varanasi, Kolkata, Puri and Chennai, before reaching Kerala.

After Bayle went for Ayurveda wellness therapy in Thiruvananthapuram, Mary Ann started for her mother’s house in Iritty.

Mary Ann covered around 100 km a day during her Indian cycling trip. According to her, she encountered not even a single bitter experience anywhere during the 5,600-km expedition and terms India as ‘women-friendly.’

Mary Ann, who has already cycled all across the US, is now making plans for a cycling trip covering the hills of Kerala.
