Dr Malavika Iyer can heal any dejected soul for she had gone to hell and come back unscathed. At 13, she lost both her hands in a freak accident. The girl had found something in the street and put it in her pocket. The grenade went off, immobilizing her and depriving her of both hands.

Dr Iyer’s journey started from that accident in 2002. Armed with a steely resolve and unshakable confidence, she rose from the ashes of tragedy like a phoenix. Her dreams and the care of her dear ones gave her the lift. She tied a pen to the stub of her arm with a rubber band and relearned to write. She passed her tenth-grade exam with 483 marks out of 500.

Her academic career took off in style. Today, Iyer is a Ph.D. holder.
