If you have been intimidated by a certain “chemical peeling”, you are not alone. The cosmetic treatment is one of the latest treatments to keep your face fresh and clean. The process is not as bad as it sounds.
Chemical peeling is actually a skin therapy using fruit extracts. Get it right and you do not have to worry about any side effects.
The process involves peeling off layers of dead skin. Only one layer will be removed at a time. The cleansing process is not easy to spot.
There are three types of peels: superficial, medium and deep. Superficial, or light, peels are the most common. Chemical peeling is chosen as a therapy for various skin problems, including pimples, wrinkles, black marks, and even to make skin fairer.
Mandelic peel is effective in oily skin. This is administered to people who want to treat their pimples. This lessens the action of the subcutaneous glands that make skin oily. They remove blackheads and white heads and cleans the pores.
Glycolic acid peels are used to remove black marks on the face. Lactic acid peels keep dry skin moist and soft. Go for peels that stimulate collagen to reduce wrinkles on the face.
Peeling is done only after testing for side effects. Experts study the skin by applying various creams two weeks before the actual process. Do not try peeling at home. This could leave your skin with burns. Peeling takes different duration to make an effect in various skins. It could be between 1 minute and 10 minutes.
If you step out into the sun after peeling, always remember to put on anti-glare lotions. If you had gone for a deep peel, use creams with higher SPF. If peeling leaves you with slight reddish marks, you have to apply some creams on them.
Do you have to repeat peelings? That depends on the type of peel you have opted for. Some of the peels have to go on for six months to maximize the effect. Deep peels have to be done only once in six months.
Peels cost at least Rs 1,000. Premium brands will cost you more.
