Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Sports Council (KSSC) has decided to appoint Olympians P. Anil Kumar, O.P. Jaisha and P. T. Paulose as coaches to train budding talents. The KSSC administrative committee meet has given the nod to appoint the trio as coaches from June.
Sports and youth affairs minister A. C. Moideen told Manorama News that the experience of the Olympians will benefit the trainees.
Four Olympians had applied to become KSSC coaches. However, Mohammad Anas who took part in the men's 400m race in the 2016 Rio Olympics was omitted as he could qualify for the next Games. Besides, Anas is also a KSSC elite scheme athlete.
Former sprinter Anil Kumar, who represented India in 4x100m relay at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and Jaisha, who has brought laurels to the country in the long distance races, will be athletics coaches, while Paulose will train young rowers.
The KSSC is willing to appoint more Olympians as coaches and plans to remove those trainers who are on long leave.
