Hua Hin (Thailand): Kerala Blasters' opening warm-up game in their preseason tour of Thailand has become a controversy after Bangkok FC, the team which Blasters claimed to have beaten, issued a statement that they did not play against the ISL side.
Blasters had tweeted on their official page that they beat Bangkok FC 4-1 in their opening practice match on Friday. Seminlen Doungel reportedly put Blasters ahead in the 17th minute and Keralite Sahal Abdusamad doubled the lead in the 70th. Slavisa Stojanovic (73rd) and Shaiborlang Kharpan (80th) sealed the win.
Theerapak Punboonchu of the rivals pulled one back four minutes from time.
However, Bangkok FC has come out with the clarification that it was the team of BangkokThonburi University and not them who played against Blasters. They have also asked the Blasters' team management to remove their logo from their post on social media.
Blasters will play four more practice matches during their three-week stint in Thailand.
The team coached by David James clash with ATK in the opening match of Indian Super League 2018-19. Blasters take on Mumbai City FC in their opening home match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on October 5.
