Minerva Punjab FC edged Churchill Brothers 1-0 in their final group fixture to emerge champions in the I-League on Thursday.
William Opeku Asiedu netted the all-important goal in the 16th minute as the Punjab side won its maiden I-League title.
NEROCA and East Bengal played out a 1-1 draw and ended up second and fourth respectively. Other title contenders Mohun Bagan were held to a 1-1 draw by debutants Gokulam Kerala FC in Kozhikode as the Kolkata giants finished third.
Minerva bagged the title with 35 points, while NEROCA garnered 32. Both Bagan and East Bengal finished with 31 points, but the former took the third spot due to superior head-to-head record.
Gokulam ended up seventh with 21 points in the 10-team league and missed out on a direct qualification for the maiden Indian Super Cup.
