Nadaun: After fine fifties by Ankit Kalsi and Rishi Dhawan, Himachal Pradesh were 257/7 against Kerala at stumps on day one of the Elite Group B match at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, here on Monday.

Kerala, who won the toss and invited the hosts to bat, struck early as opener Raghav Dhawan (2) was caught by Mohammed Azharuddeen off Basil Thampi's bowling.

Then, medium-pacer MD Nidheesh struck twice as he castled wicketkeeper-batsman Ankush Bains (10) and trapped skipper Prasanth Chopra (23) leg-before.

After adding 37-runs with Kalsi, Nikhil Gangta (28) was caught by Azharuddeen off Nidheesh's bowling as Himachal were 82/4.

Kalsi (89) along with Rishi Dhawan (58) then put on a 105-run partnership for the fifth wicket, before the latter was trapped leg-before by Nidheesh to claim his fourth wicket of the day.

Then, pacer Sandeep Warrier dismissed Amit Kumar (23) and Mayank Dagar (0) in the same over with the total at 231/7.

Kalsi and Pankaj Jaiswal (11) were at the crease at the close of the day's play.
