London: A Keralite bank officer has been jailed for 15 months on charges of attempting sex with an underage girl. Balachandran, 38, married and employed with a private bank, waited for a 14-year-old girl in a hotel room as the cops who were monitoring pedophiles on Internet chat rooms set a trap for him.
Balachandran had traveled from Birmingham to London and checked in to the hotel in the hope that he could have sex there with a 14-year-old girl he met in a chat room. He had kept condoms and perfumes with him, but instead of the girl, it was a police team that arrived at his room.
Balachandran first tried to wriggle out as he realized the trap, but police confronted him with documents to prove his chatting with the 'girl.' He had no option but to admit guilt.
A Birmingham court sentenced Balachandran to 15 months in jail. The court also ordered that he be listed as a sexual offender and be kept under watch for 10 years.
Balachandran broke into tears as he was led into jail after the court verdict. It was the 'pedophile hunters' team in police that chatted with Balachandran posing as a girl. The bank said it would also take action against him.
Another Malayali youth had landed in a similar police trap a few months ago.
