Thrissur: Amid the row over the suicide of a student, allegedly due to harassment by the management of Nehru College of Engineering, Pambady, here, more students have come out with shocking revelations about the ill treatment meted out to them at the institute.
One student recounted the experience of witnessing the brutal torture of a fellow student by teachers, while others listed out the methods of harassment including naming and shaming of pupils as 'notorious.'
"I have seen a student being brutally beaten up," a student said on the condition of anonymity. He added that those from inside the college and some outsiders too were part of the assault team.

He said there was an undeclared ban on girls and boys being together on the campus. "If a boy is seen entering the campus with a girl, he is doomed. One day a teacher read out a list of students in our classroom and said they have been included in the 'notorious' list. Still, I can't understand what crimes they have done," he said.
The college also charges fines from students if they grow beards. "I was not allowed to write an exam because I had not shaved that day. I pleaded with the invigilator to let me write the exam, but he didn't relent," another student said.
It is also alleged that the college often failed in examinations those who didn't pay fines and even debarred them from examinations.
Jishnu, a computer science student of the college, committed suicide on Friday after he was allegedly harassed by teachers for exam malpractices. The police have launched a probe into the incident.
Meanwhile, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (initially Kerala Technological University) officials told television channels that were no exam malpractices reported from the college. That raises the question why Jishnu was harassed.
Agitated over the incident, students vandalized the office of the college on Monday.
