Kattappana: Distance and culture could not hold barriers to this Hungarian couple, who traveled across the seas to proclaim their love in a land they adore and admire.
Hungarian citizens, 53-year-old Andard Tahiyam and 33-year-old Regina Hastudieu, got married at the Kuzhitholu Durga Devi temple, near Kattappana, Thursday according to Hindu customs.
The couple arrived in the state a few days ahead of the the wedding. The couple has been in love with Hindu traditions and decided to get married in a temple in Kerala with all the customary rituals.
Both the bride and the groom arrived at the venue in traditional Kerala-style attire. While Andard handsomely pulled off a mundu and shirt, Regina, who was beautifully draped in a traditional white saree, looked almost like a Malayali girl.
After the customary rituals, overseen by chief priest C.S. Potti, Andard and Regina tied the knot Thursday morning. A friend of the couple from Russia also witnessed the ceremony.
Although the couple's family was not present at the ceremony, a curious crowd was gathered at the temple to witness the 'foreigners' wedding.' The ceremony was followed by a sumptuous Kerala-style feast complete with 'thoran,' 'kalan,' and 'ada prathaman.'
The visitors at Kuzhitholu temple often include film stars, celebrities and foreigners.
