Thodupuzha: Kerala Congress (M) working chairman P J Joseph has denied that there was a move to elevate Jose K Mani as the party chairman. “No decision has been taken to make C F Thomas the Parliamentary Party Leader,” he added.

Referring to a move by the party district presidents in this regard, Joseph said that it was for the party leadership to take a decision on the matter. “I don’t feel that there would be a demand that all party posts should got to only one section,” he opined.

Joseph also said that the observations in the publication ‘Prathichaya’ were wrong. “The party had not decided that I too should resign along with K M Mani,” he pointed out.

Joseph was reacting to a move by nine party district presidents who demanded that Jose K Mani should be made the Chairman of Kerala Congress (M) as the successor of K M Mani. They raised the matter with party deputy chairman C F Thomas. The district presidents also wanted C F Thomas to take over as parliamentary party leader.

However, Thomas expressed his displeasure over the move and told the district chiefs that such decisions should be taken only on the basis of a consensus. Thomas also told the district chiefs that their action was not proper.

After meeting Thomas, the district presidents went to Jose K Mani’s house at Pala. Jose K Mani also told them that it was for the party leadership to take a call on the chairman. A decision will be taken soon, he told them.

Earlier, the Mani and the Joseph groups had made some moves for arriving at a consensus on the chairman’s post. The Mani faction wants Jose K Mani to be the party chairman. Joseph’s supporters want C F Thomas to occupy the post. Of the 14 district presidents, 10 support Jose K Mani. The district presidents’ strategic move has come even as the senior leaders have decided to meet on Monday to discuss the issue.
