Kochi: Controversial actress Leena Maria Paul employed several tactics, including using a fake name to evade don Ravi Pujari, investigation has revealed. Pujari was allegedly involved in a shooting incident at Leena's luxury beauty salon in Kochi in December.

The actress had earlier alleged that she received Internet threat calls on her mobile phone demanding Rs 25 crore on November 3, under instructions from Pujari. The caller had threatened to kill the actress if the money was not paid.

Pujari called Leena several times from early November to late December last year. She switched her phone number when he sought money. Pujari then started calling on her salon's landline number. The gangster allegedly hired gunmen when Leena started dodging the calls and posed as an employee at the beauty parlour while attending his calls.

Manorama News has released audio clips of their conversation:

Leena: Sir, she is abroad. Will be back in three days.

Pujari: Abroad where?

Leena: Dubai

Pujari: Dubai?

Leena: Yes sir.

Pujari: Give me her Dubai number.

Leena: We don’t know her Dubai number. Will convey your message when she calls.

Pujari: This is a serious matter, serious case.

Leena: Sir, I am just the manager. I don’t know the number. Don’t know anything else.

Pujari: Are you the manager? What’s your name?

Leena: Anjali

Pujari: Full name?

Leena: Anjali Mehta

Pujari: Mehta? So are you a Gujarati?

Leena: Sir, my father is Gujarati, mother is from Mumbai.

Pujari: Where in Mumbai?

Leena: In Khar.

Leena told the police that she could not record earlier conversations because the land phone had no recorder. Also, there was no evidence to prove that the caller was indeed Pujari.

The bike-borne accused had shot at Leena’s beauty parlour with air pistols on December 15. The assailants had fled the scene after firing at the first floor of the building in Ernakulam.

The attackers left a note with Pujari’s name while leaving the parlour premises. Four days later, Pujari called up a local TV station to claim responsibility for the attack.

Three people, two gunmen and a prime facilitator in city, have been arrested four months after the attack.

The Crime Branch had pressed charges against Pujari for conspiracy, blackmail, extortion and several arms acts. Investigators have found similarities between this case and the one in Kasaragod’s Bevincha, where a contractor’s house was shot at.

Pujari hails from Karnataka, which borders Kerala's Kasaragod district.

This voice clip, validated scientifically, became evidence against him.

Leena is accused of defrauding Canara Bank in Chennai to the tune of Rs 19 crore.
