Political violence continues to flare up in Perambra

Kozhikode: Political violence continued to flare up in Perambra in the district on Wednesday with one more house in the region coming under bomb attack. Miscreants hurled bomb at the house of Sreedharan, of Eravettoor.

The region had witnessed largescale violence and protests after two women, in their 40s, entered the Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala on January 2.

On Tuesday the houses of CPM and BJP leaders also came under attack. Two men on a motorcycle threw bombs at the house of CPM area committee member and municipal education standing committee chairman K Shiju. The window panes of the house were damaged in the attack.

Houses of BJP mandalam secretary V K Mukundan and party activist Athul were also targeted in the countrybomb attack.

The intermittent political clashes have cast an atmosphere of terror over Perambra and Koyilandi.

CITU worker arrested for pelting stones at BJP protest venue

Meanwhile, in Thiruvananthapuram a CITU worker was arrested for pelting stones at the hunger strike venue of the BJP in front of the Secretariat. Stones were hurled from the protest venue of the joint trade unions that was situated on the other side of the road. The arrested has been identified as Vichu, hailing from Thycaud.

Kerala had seen unprecedented violence after two women of child-bearing age - Bindu and Kanakadurga - offered prayers at the Lord Ayyappa temple, following which a shutdown was called by various outfits the next day.

According to police, 2,187 cases have been registered and 6,914 arrested in connection with the violence witnessed in the past few days.
