Thiruvananthapuram: The official Facebook page of the Kerala Police has created history by crossing one million likes. The Kerala Police site has now left behind one of the world’s biggest law enforcement agencies, the New York Police Department, in this regard.

The document confirming this record will be handed over by Facebook India (Trust and Safety) chief Sathya Yadav to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at a function to be held at the Police Headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on January 10.

On the occasion, the chief minister will honour the police officers who worked to achieve the feat. Pinarayi will also release the CD of a short film on safe travel prepared by the Railway Police.

The Kerala Police had launched the Facebook page to inform and create awareness among the people about the alerts and instructions issued by the police from time to time, traffic safety, cyber security and legal issues. These efforts of the police received a warm response from the public and became a big hit on the social media.

When the police created trolls and videos to spread the messages, the site became even more popular. The Kerala Police Facebook page soon trumped the sites managed by top police agencies around the world to earn the one-million honour.

DGP Loknath Behera and ADGP Manoj Abraham will be among the officials who will take part in the ceremony.
