Thiruvananthapuram: A woman has been booked for making castiest slur against Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Maniyamma, hailing from Cherukol in Pathanamthitta district, hurled the casteist remarks during a protest against the LDF government's decision to implement the Supreme Court verdict on women's entry to Sabarimala.

The video of the woman insulting the CM by naming his caste has taken social media by storm.

The agitations took a sharp turn after the CM Pinarayi made it clear that the government won't be filing a review petition against the recent Supreme Court verdict that quashed the ban on entry of menstruating women to the hill shrine. Pinarayi had stated that the government is committed to implementing the apex court verdict at any cost, infuriating a large section of devotees.

Maniyamma had said that Pinarayi belongs to one of the backward communities in the state. The case was taken based on a complaint by SNDP Yogam office-bearer V Sunilkumar.

On September 28, in a 4:1 judgment, the apex court said the ban on women in the menstruating age group, whose presence in the Lord Ayyappa temple was considered to be 'impure', violated their fundamental rights and constitutional guarantee of equality.

Until now, only girls below 10 years and women over 50 years were allowed to visit the hilltop shrine.
