Thiruvananthapuram: Union tourism minister Alphons Kannanthanam said that he received the invite to the Loka Kerala Sabha only on Friday, the day the Malayali diaspora conference was scheduled to start. However, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan rebuked the claim by citing the BJP leader’s letter acknowledging the state government’s invite.
Kannanthanam vent out his feeling at the final day of the conference. Pinarayi was quick with his retort. The chief minister said that an invite was sent out to Kannanthanam several days in advance and the Union minister had even wrote back to acknowledge the invite.
Kannanthanam said that he kept away from the inaugural session of the conference because he received the invitation late but Pinarayi said that the Union minister might have been too busy to note the date.
The chief minister also responded to Kannanthanam’s suggestions to make Munnar a top-notch tourism attraction. Pinarayi said that tourist facilities in Munnar could be developed only by conserving the natural beauty and it may not be possible to offer accommodation to everyone.
