VP Sanu VP Sanu said that the young Congress leader was trying to grab attention through social media.

Malappuram: It is wrong to attack and shower abuses on V T Balram, MLA, in retaliation to his controversial remarks on the late Communist stalwart A K Gopalan, SFI national president V P Sanu said here on Friday.

"Reacting to Balram in the same way he created the controversy is unacceptable," Sanu said, adding that the young Congress leader was trying to grab attention through social media.

"Anyone can voice their opinion on any matter and people also have the freedom to criticize it. But it is unacceptable to unleash an attack on someone for voicing his opinion," he said.

Balram courted controversy by making a Facebook comment which suggested that Gopalan, the first leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha, was a pedophile.

The comment invited wrath from several corners with the CPM demanding apology from the Thrithala MLA for defaming the Communist leader and his family and distorting facts.

Balram has refused to apologize even after the Congress disowning his comment. CPM has staged protests against the MLA.
