V.T. Balram The remarks triggered a widespread row on social media with a large number of people coming out against the MLA.

Kottayam: War of words over Congress MLA V T Balram's comment on Communist veteran A K Gopalan's marriage continue to make waves both on and off the virtual world.

In an editorial, 'Amul babymar aaditimirkkumbol', published in the party paper, veteran CPM leader VS Achuthanandan flayed the young legislator for making distasteful comments against AKG.

Balram, representing Thrithala constituency, had remarked on the love affair and subsequent marriage of A K Gopalan with Susheela, who was several years younger to him, on Facebook last week.

V S also asked Balram, if he would dare make such comments on Mahatma Gandhi.

Replying to VS via social media, Balram pointed out that the veteran leader's double-standards were evident through the article as he was at the same time, criticizing the comments against AKG and daring him to make similar remarks on Gandhiji.

Balram further said that it was for his party and the Kerala society to correct him but he was not ready to take any moral lessons from the CPM or VS.

Many-time Lok Sabha MP, Gopalan, called AKG by his admirers, was popularly known as "crusader of the downtrodden". He had also served as leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.

The remarks triggered a widespread row on social media with a large number of people coming out against the MLA.

Popular dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi too slammed the young legislator for his remarks against AKG. "Words of people like Balram, who do not even understand the meaning of revolution, must be trashed.”
