Kerala health minister K K Shylaja was caught in the eye of a storm after she reportedly purchased an 'expensive pair' of spectacles and reimbursed the cost from the government treasury.
The communist party minister, who found herself in the defensive over the 'extravagance', has come forward saying that she was ready to apologize if mistakes were pointed out.
The pair of spectacles reportedly cost Rs 28,000.
" I have serious eye ailments. Instead of buying a new pair of glasses every year, my doctor suggested I invest in a good pair of lens that would last me a few years. With the expensive lens it was also necessary to buy a compatible frame," she said.
The health minister, no stranger to controversies, said that the bill had been submitted through proper channel and undergoes crosschecks from offices, including that of the accountant general.
