Kerala needs more exam centers for NEET PG: Tharoor writes to Nadda Shashi Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, MP, has written to union health minister J.P. Nadda over the severe shortage of exam centers for NEET PG in Kerala and urged him to rectify the imbalance.

He also pointed out that this injustice was being repeated year after year, putting the state's students through great inconvenience and agony.

It was also mentioned in the letter that a large number of students from other states avail the excellent coaching facilities in Kerala and that these teenagers also opted for the limited centers available in the state. This in turn affects the number of seats available for candidates from within the state -- some even have to choose centers as far as Uttar Pradesh. This aspect also has to be considered while increasing the centers in Kerala, Tharoor urged.

A good number of NEET PG candidates from the state will have to write their entrance exam in other states this year. The application for the NEET started at 3 pm on Tuesday, and all the seats for Kerala were taken within hours. The last date to apply is November 27.

As many as 12,000 doctors are likely to apply for the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test )PG exam. However, there are only 1,700 slots in four centers in Kerala.
