Kochi: Is conspiring an attack a more grievous crime than actually attacking someone? This was a point of contention during a high-level meet of the special investigation team (SIT) probing the February 17 actress attack case, it was learned.
Can actor Dileep be named first accused in the case 'merely' because he hatched the conspiracy to abduct and assault the young actress?
There are a lot of missing links in the horrendous tale of the sensational assault case and even 8 months after the crime, the public has little information on what actually conspired on the night of February 17 and the events that led to the crime.
Dileep was not among the four people in the car who assaulted the young woman and took photos/videos of the horrifying crime. That much we know.
But charges against Dileep say that he began plotting with main accused Pulsar Suni as early as 2013! Dileep is currently the eleventh accused in the case.
And why did she have to go through that ordeal?
Sources in the police department say Dileep wanted to settle scores with the young woman for informing his then wife Manju Warrier about his affair with Kavya Madhavan. The fact that Dileep went on to marry Kavya in 2016, added more fuel to the revenge theory.
Pulsar Suni did not have any known personal grudge against the young woman. A history-sheeter, Suni was reportedly given a quotation to carry out the crime allegedly by Dileep. It doesn't in any way lessen the gravity of his crime even if Suni 'only did a job' he was assigned to. But isn't it a larger crime to plot for years in advance and wreak vengeance against a hapless woman.
Reports say that the cops have decided to name the actor first accused in the case, though they are yet to confirm it officially.
