Kochi: The Kerala High Court Friday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of 'Appunni', actor Dileep's manager; who is an accused in the actress attack case. The court directed the actor's aide to appear before the probe team.
The prosecution had informed the court that Appunni needs to be questioned to ascertain whether he was part of the conspiracy to attack the actress.
The manager went absconding soon after the much-publicized arrest of the actor on July 10 for plotting the attack on the actress and hiring goons to videotape the assault. The police had tried to reach out to Appunni on five different phone numbers, but all of them remain switched off. The remand report mentions Appunni's role in the February 17 attack case but he has not been named an accused in the case, the court was informed.
Appunni is believed to be one of the main links between Dileep and prime accused 'Pulsar' Suni.
The police had also found evidence to prove that Suni had communicated with director Nadhirshah's and Appunni's from the jail. It was also found that these calls were returned.
Pulsar Suni was arrested six days after the crime. Suni's arrest eventually led the investigators to Dileep, who is suspected to have planned the attack on the actress to settle scores. The duo allegedly started plotting the attack as early as 2013. The disappearance of Appunni, whom police suspect to be a partner in the conspiracy, has been a setback for the probe team.
