Kochi: The AMMA press meet, after its 23rd general body in Kochi on Thursday, was one marked by typical filmy high drama as some actors lost cool and raised their voice as journalists raised questions.
The AMMA meet came a day after actor Dileep underwent a marathon interrogation in connection with the infamous actress attack case. At the press meet, which turned noisy with some actors getting agitated, Innocent, president, AMMA, said the association did not discuss the latest development in the case related to abduction and molestation of the actress.
The actress who was attacked in Kochi stayed away from the general body meeting. “Nobody raised the issue at the meeting. AMMA stands with both Dileep and the actress. We don't want to make any comment on it as probe is on,” Innocent said categorically at the beginning of the press meet.
Innocent said AMMA would absolutely cooperate with the Women in Cinema Collective and encouraged its activities.
Ahead of the meeting, actress Remya Nambeesan had told the media that the newly formed women's collective would urge the AMMA's general body to discuss the case.
Dileep tried to clarify that his statement regarding the victim actress and Pulsar Suni, the main accused in the case, was distorted by the media.
While senior actors Mohanlal and Mammootty remained silent throughout the presser, actor-politicians Mukesh and Ganesh Kumar lost cool at some questions posed by the reporters.
The police on Wednesday recorded detailed statements of Dileep and his friend and director Nadhirshah in the case of abduction and attack on an actress in a moving car.
The statement was recorded after they were summoned at the Aluva Police Club by a team of officials headed by ADGP B Sandhya.
The 13-hour long procedure, began at 12.30 pm Wednesday, concluded at 1.05 am Thursday.
"All issues related to the case were discussed", Dileep said after emerging from the Police Club. The probe officers said they will be summoned again if necessary.
'No clean chit'
A senior police officer said it was done for not giving a clean chit to anyone. "The statements were recorded as part of the investigation", said the officer, who is part of the investigation team.
Dileep has told the police that he came to know about the February 17 incident through his colleagues and that even if he tried to contact the attacked actress, she was not ready to speak to him, Manorama News reported. In his statement retrieved by Manorama News , Dileep has clarified that there were differences in opinion in some personal matters and that he never had any intention to hurt anyone.
I am confident: Dileep
"I am very confident", Dileep said. The investigation is progressing very well", the actor said, adding it was his need to see that the truth was revealed in the case.
Besides Dileep and Nadhirshah, police also recorded the statement of Appunni, a close aide of the actor, who had received a purported threat call from the prime accused 'Pulsar Suni'.
Nadhirshah had on June 24 said that a man named Vishnu, claiming to be Suni's friend, had called him seeking a huge amount from the actor for not dragging him to the case.
He had said that Vishnu, who claimed to have shared a cell with Suni in jail, told him that some people in the Malayalam film world had offered money to Suni if he stated during questioning that Dileep was a conspirator in the case.
Nadhirshah had also claimed Vishnu had offered to give him money for helping to trap Dileep in the case. Six persons, including 'Pulsar' Suni, Martin and Vigeesh have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The actress, who has acted in movies in all south Indian languages, was abducted and allegedly molested inside her car for two hours by the accused, who had forced their way into the vehicle on February 17 night and later escaped in a busy area in Kochi.
