Kasaragod: Several persons who had gone missing from Kerala may be running a social media campaign in favor of terror outfit Islamic State, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) suspects.
The mysterious person who formed a Malayalam WhatsApp group for Islamic State propaganda and added members without their consent may be Abdul Rashid, the Kasaragod native who is suspected to have fled to Syria to fight along with the terrorists. Rashid and associates are trying to recruit more people to their gang, the NIA said.
The WhatsApp group was reported to the police by a Kasaragod resident who was shocked to see himself a member of the group. The complainant said he received several audio clips claiming to be that of Rashid, who went missing from Trikaripur.
The group, named ‘Message to Kerala’ has been formed by a number from Afghanistan. The group admin is Abu Easa, who is suspected to be the same Easa who went missing from Palakkad.
Rashid, Easa and 19 others, including women, were reported missing from various parts of Kerala a few months ago. The NIA believes that they had found their way to the IS camps.
