Thrikkakara: The recent Kerala floods have left many in mourning and displaced lakhs of people across the state. Despite efforts by the Army, Navy, NDRF and SDRF, several areas remain waterlogged and lack access to clean food and water. Wayanad, Kozhikode, Idukki and Malappuram are some of the worst-hit districts with issues ranging from landslides to flooding.

Realizing the need of the hour, the NSS (National Service Scheme) team of the Govt Model Engineering College extended their helping hand last week by sending two trucks of supplies to Wayanad and one to Alappuzha.

On August 17, they organized an LED making to session to create LED bulbs, to be distributed free of cost, ensuring maximum participation. The bulbs were meant for distribution in Wayanad and Malappuram. The aim was to help at least 100 families, producing a total of 400 bulbs, four bulbs each for one family.

"The session turned out to be a grand success with the whole-hearted participation by the students. Initially, it was aimed to be a two-day program but with over 90 students turning up on the first day itself, we achieved the target of 400 bulbs within 3 hours! We hope this will aid the families in Malappuram and Wayanad." said Akhiljith Ashok, one of the event coordinators.
