Automobile designing has emerged a frontrunner in the designing sector with solar, electric and hybrid cars set to overtake the petrol and diesel vehicles in the near future. The candidates have to seek admission at these institutions by clearing an entrance test. The admission to these courses in the IITs is carried out through the UCEED entrance exam.

Many foreign universities offer courses in designing for those who have completed graduation. Hundreds of aspirants opt for the designing courses at IIT Mumbai, Guwahati, Delhi and Kanpur as well.
