The vajrasanam posture in yoga is also called veerasanam, diamond pose or the thunderbolt pose. In the art of yoga, the term ‘diamond’ signifies the male genitalia. This posture helps in strengthening the nerves and muscles around the pelvic area and can keep away many diseases as well. Besides, it also strengthens the digestive organs and regulates the production of insulin by stimulating the functioning of the pancreas.

Diabetic patients or those who have digestive problems could practice this posture for at least 10 minutes, after the meal at night. It helps you catch a good night’s sleep.

To do the ardha vajrasanam, sit on your knees, with erect back and feet a bit apart. Rest your palms on your knees. You could do your regular breathing exercise or meditate sitting in this posture. If you have pain on the knees or on the joins, roll up a towel and place it beneath the feet and the knees. When you want to relax or get up, press your palms on the floor, balance the weight to one side and slowly relax each leg.
