Even as the scientific community is working overtime to find a cure for COVID-19, plenty of hoax messages are being circulated on social media, confusing people already ensnared in the fear of the pandemic.

COVID-19, which stands for Coronavirus Disease 2019, is the name of the disease caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2. More than 4,000 people have died globally so far after the disease broke in the Chinese province of Wuhan in December 2019.
