Everyone loves cracking the knuckles and joints just to relax the fingers or limbs after performing a prolonged task. Cracking knuckles or joints makes a distinct popping sound called crepitus. This happens when the air bubbles present in the subcutaneous tissue pops.

It must also occcur because of the stretching of ligaments and tendons. However, medical experts say that it is better to massage the fingers instead of cracking the finger joints. Crepitus happens when you turn your neck to both sides after sitting still for a long time.

Cracking joints is harmless if it isn’t followed by severe pain or swollen fingers. However, doctors advice that it is good for old people to avoid the habit of cracking joints. The chances of bones getting fractured are more in old people.
