Though many of us have been told that a full-time desk job is not good for health, we often choose to ignore such warnings. However, serious health issues may haunt people working long hours sitting. Some of the ailments are discussed below.

Heart disease

One may wonder how heart disease and sitting at one place are related. Fat will be deposited in the body of a person sitting for a long time. This may cause a block in the heart and he or she may become a heart patient.

Body pain

Constant sitting may cause pain on the neck, hip or back which could spread to the entire body.

Poor posture syndrome

If your posture is not correct, ‘Poor posture syndrome’ may develop. Ensure that the back is straight while sitting at the workplace to avoid this condition.

Brain damage

Research conducted at California University found that sitting for a considerable period can even affect the brain. Scientists suggest that some brain cells could be damaged this way.

Weight gain

Deposit of fat will lead to increase in body weight. It is a well-known fact that lifestyle that causes weight gain.

Diabetes

Diabetes affects people who do not engage in physical activity. Sitting for hours makes people vulnerable to this condition.

Varicose vein

Long sitting increases the blood pressure in the veins of the legs. This could lead to varicose vein.

Solution

If you have a job that necessitates sitting for many hours, get up from your seat every 30 minutes and spend at least five minutes standing or doing light exercises. This helps the body relax and avoid many of the conditions discussed above.
