Anju Habib, a native of Palakkad, is truly an inspiration to all those who think that shedding body weight is something close to impossible. The young woman has amazingly shed over 8 kilos in just 4 months. Anju says that her transformation was equally exciting for herself and her husband Habib. However, she admits that her father was a bit disappointed, in the beginning, to see Anju being slimmed down a bit. She has been a foodie since childhood and everyone in the family loved to feed Anju with delicious delicacies. So, it was quite natural that her father was a upset about her massive weightloss.
Second weight loss
“This in fact is my second weight loss regime. I was confident to begin workout as I had earlier shed more than 20 kilos after my first delivery. I couldn’t follow a strict diet as I was a nursing mother. Besides, it was difficult to find time for workout as well. However, from September onwards I was on track. Meanwhile, my husband had already begun an amazing workout regime which was showing results. So I couldn’t sit back and relax after that,” says Anju.
Anju’s husband, Habib, had created quite a stir on the social media by publicly challenging himself to lose the extra flab. Soon they started a Facebook group where fitness enthusiasts would share their workout ideas and keep a track of each other’s progress. Anju and her friends Dr. Shimna Azeez and jeena were the admins of the group, often monitoring the visitors. She says that while monitoring and motivating the group members, she herself worked out rigorously to get back into shape. She began to eat food by calculating the calories that are required for the smooth functioning of the body. Anju did resistance training along with HIIT to tone down her body. Many group members ask her to share her workout and diet plans. Habib would often prepare PDF files which have elaborate and detailed workout regimes and diet plans and post it on their Facebook page.
Anju is visibly slim by shedding 8 ½ kilos in 4 months. She weighs 50 kilos now, her dress size changed from XL to small, and her jeans size from 34 to 28. However, Anju says that her challenge isn’t complete yet. Like her husband, Anju too had challenged herself that she would post a picture of her with flat abs, on social media, in 2019. She also has a half marathon in her wish list, for which she is building stamina.
“It wasn’t simply just a weight loss challenge for us. Significant changes have taken place in our lifestyles as well. We stopped buying junk food and fried snacks or crispies. We cut down on our intake of sugar and oily food. Vegetables became an important part of our daily diet. We began to be conscious about the nutritious values of the food that we eat every day. I stopped eating left - over food as I began to remind myself that it is my own body. Problems related to hair fall and pimples disappeared once I began eating healthy food. My skin began to glow as I drink at least 3 liters of water a day,” reveals Anju.
People who meet Anju after a long time often wonder at her mesmerizing transformation. They even ask her about the ‘secret’ behind her weight loss. Anju says that many of them have even started to work out after being motivated by her achievement. “I am really happy that many people have decided to change their ways because they were inspired by my transformation. Like I have already said, I will come again in 2019, with a flat abs, as I have promised,” says a determined Anju.
