Inspector Daulatram Jogawat has proved a point. A year after noted columnist Shobhaa De tweeted his picture with a taunt on his obesity, the cop has shed 65 kg. And he has no malice towards De whose tweet had eventually convinced a bariatric surgeon to help him lose weight free of cost.
Jogawat found himself in unwanted national media limelight in February 2017 when De tweeted his picture with a comment, "Heavy police bandobust in Mumbai today!" De was slammed for body-shaming the obese cop but Jogawat decided he had to do something about his weight problem.
The inspector from Madhya Pradesh started piling on weight due to hormone imbalance after a surgery in 1993. He weighed an astonishing 180 kg when De found his picture.
Jogawat went straight to Dr Muhammed Lakdawala, a bariatric surgeon in Mumbai. The surgeon offered to operate on the inspector free of cost. Jogawat was a determined patient. He stuck to a a strict regimen involving diet and exercises. A year later, he weighs 115 kg.
Jogawat thanked De for inspiring him to lose weight. He said that the weight loss had made all the difference to his life.
