A design marvel in Kottayam that is surprisingly elegant

There is a sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen and three bath attached bedrooms in this beautiful house which has an area of 1800 sq ft.

The owner of this beautiful dwelling in Alumood, Kottayam, Kerala, wanted a spacious house with all the modern facilities and a front yard as well. However, the house which suited her preferences and interests had to be built in a 7 cents plot. The plot, situated at the corner of a lane, is a bit raised from the level of the main road. The structure is constructed after leaving enough space for the front yard. The exteriors of this house exude the spectacular elegance of the contemporary architecture style. Truss work is done over flat roof and clay roofing tiles are paved over it. Beams, in double height and the slanting roof designed in three layers make the house look majestic and vast.

This house has been smartly designed to keep a check on the budget without compromising on the stylish look of the house. The groves installed on the cement plastering in the outer wall are enhanced using texture paint. This feature, at a glance, looks exactly like stylish claddings.

The elegance of granite attracts the attention in the sit-out. Meanwhile, vitrified tiles are paved on the floor in the rest of the house. The pristine charm of the white hue dominates the interiors which makes it look vast and spacious. Texture paint in the pleasant shades of blue and orange add the perfect contrast in some areas. The gypsum false ceiling with LED lighting makes the interiors look chic.

The handrails of the stairway are done in mahogany timber. The wash area arranged beneath the stairway is a fine example of meticulous utilization of the spaces. The wall here is highlighted using sand stone cladding.

The cupboards in the open kitchen are done in multi-wood with auto paint finish. Granite is paved on the counter top.

The house is constructed by strictly following the rules of the vastusastra. The thulasi thara (the sacred platform where the tulsi plant is grown) is built right in front of the entrance door. The construction of this house, including the furnishing, was completed on a budget of Rs 45 lakh.
