Ranjith, a native of Kozhikode, Kerala had owned a plot of 9 cents in Karaparmbu. However, when he planned to build a comfortable house here, budget became bit of a problem. As Ranjith was not interested to burden himself with a housing loan, he sold three cents from this piece of land that he owned. Besides, he had also saved a significant amount of money which helped him build his dream dwelling, in a 6 cents plot, without having any debts.
The elevation is in the flat roof style to wisely utilize maximum space. A few designer features add incredible charm to the exteriors. The wall near the sit-out is decorated with unique claddings made with treated teak wood. The area of the stairway is done in double height and an entire wall here is adorned with glass windows. These windows play a major role in bringing in natural sunshine which illuminates the interiors. Natural stones are paved in the courtyard so that the rain water would easily seep into the earth.
The interiors of this house, constructed on a 6 cents plot, are designed in such way that space constraints wouldn’t be felt. There are formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen, four bedrooms, an upper living area and a balcony in this beautiful house which has an area of 2400 sq ft. Arrangements are done on the grilles beside the car porch to grow creepers which could add a touch of green hue here.
There aren’t many interiors walls and the spaces are interconnected as well. Wooden flooring and a ‘C’ shaped sofa, in striking blue coloured upholstery, makes the formal living area amazingly elegant and comfortable. The windows on both sides make the room well lit and cool as well.
A wall decorated with claddings of laterite stones separates the family living area. Vitrified tiles are paved on the floor in all the main areas. Wooden flooring adds to the classy look of the master bedroom and the formal living area.
The dining table in wood and glass can easily accommodate six people comfortably. One can enter the charming patio from the dining area.
Many smart features could be spotted in the interiors which are fine examples of meticulous utilization of the spaces. The pooja space is arranged within a wall which could be opened. Wash area is arranged beneath the stairway. The stairway designed in cantilever style has handrails done in steel with wooden strips.
Storage has been given prime importance while designing bedrooms. Full length wardrobes have been arranged in all the bedrooms.
The cupboards in the open kitchen are done in multi wood with paint finish. Wooden tiles pasted on the splash back are the highlighting feature here.
The house was constructed, including the structure and furnishing, on a budget of Rs 55 lakh. Ranjith and his family are incredibly happy and relieved that they have moved into their brand new house without having to bear any financial burdens.
