Lighter shades adorn the exteriors walls with the cement texture and cement finish making it stand out.

Anzal is excited to share his experience of building his dream dwelling, overcoming the space constraints of a 5 cents plot in Edapally. The plot, at a single glance, looked like a perfect piece of land. However, the uneven surface of it would only be revealed as one enters and takes a good look at it.

Anzal was initially skeptical whether he would be able to build a spacious house on this plot. As the plot lies in the middle of the city, it is closely surrounded by other houses and buildings. The family wanted a slice of nature inside the house, which is vast enough not to feel suffocated. Designer Shinto visited the plot and understood its unique features before drawing the plan. Within a few months, a beautiful house rose up here, fulfilling the dreams of Anzal and his family.

Lighter shades adorn the exteriors walls with the cement texture and cement finish making it stand out. These colours and patterns are followed on the boundary wall as well.

A car porch, sit out, formal and family living areas, dining space, kitchen, upper living area and three bedrooms are arranged in his elegant house which has an area of 2278 sq ft. The uniquely designed formal living area stands out for its classy finish. This area is designed in double height and a view of this space is easily available from the upper storey. Vertical pergolas are done on the side wall through which natural light and fresh air come into the house abundantly.

These are secured with mosquito nets as well, to save the family members from the severe mosquito density in Kochi. A wall has been highlighted using cement texture. The elegant wooden strips, pasted on this wall, in a beautiful pattern, acts as a decorative feature. The indoor plants here add a shade of green hue which elevates the overall look of the space.

The family living and the dining areas are in the open style. A sliding glass door is installed in the wall beside the dining area. This sliding glass door opens to the beautiful patio near the boundary wall. Indoor plants are arranged here too. A false ceiling in minimal style, with beautiful lighting, is installed.

The hand railings of the stair way are made of wood and toughened glass. The pergolas on the ceiling above the stairway let lots of pleasant sunshine into the interiors. A living area and a TV unit are arranged in the upper landing of the stairway.

The kitchen is designed in the open style and the cupboards are done in multi-wood and laminate finish. Enough wardrobes are arranged in the bath-attached bedrooms. A wall in one of the bedrooms is highlighted with a unique wall paper which depicts an un-plastered brick wall.

As the spaces are open, it makes the interiors look vast and the family members do not feel space constraints at all. As there is excellent cross ventilation, the temperature inside the house is always pleasant and comfortable. The construction was done for Rs 2650 per square feet, including the structure and the furnishing. This house proves that an amazingly spacious house, with all the modern facilities, could be built on a small plot, with proper planning and meticulous use of spaces.
