Dream home on a meagre budget in Malppuram sets example

Malppuram house
Though the house looks like a single storied one from outside, it is actually two-storied.

Nasil, a native of Malapppuram, is excited to talk about his new house at Venniyoor in Malappuarm, Kerala, that is built on an impressively moderate budget. The old ancestral home was demolished when time began to take a toll on it and the new house was built on this plot.

Though the house looks like a single storied one from outside, it is actually two-storied. The sapota and the mango trees that stood in the front courtyard of the old house weren’t cut down to make space for the new structure. The wood and furniture from the old house is reused in the new one as well. The slab, constructed at a shorter height, is what makes the house look like a single storied one.

The 1650 sq ft house has living and dining areas, kitchen, and three bedrooms. A small garden adorns the open balcony in the façade of the house. The interiors are designed to suit preferences of all the family members. There is a riot of colors inside the house which makes it more attractive and lively. The hall which has the dining area and the stairway is designed in double height. This makes interiors look more spacious and ensures amazing ventilation as well.

A wall in the living room is heighted using texture paint in purple hue. The dining table can comfortably accommodate six people. Nasil’s wife who is an excellent artist has done some eye catching bottle paintings that adorn the curio shelf near the dining table.

The stairway is made with stainless steel. It lands on an upper storey hall. The wash area is arranged beneath the stairway.

The kitchen has all the necessary facilities. A highlighted wall in every bedroom adds to the charm of the rooms. The construction of this elegant house, including the structure and furnishing, was completed on a moderate budget of Rs 19 lakh. Nasil and his family are extremely delighted that they have been able to build their dream home in a cost effective manner.

These are the factors which helped reduce expenses:

» The wood and furniture from the old house was reused

» Putty finish is done only in the main areas

» Light points are installed directly without adding the false ceiling

» Limited installation of electrical points
