It was for business purposes that Johny George, his wife Maya and daughter Meeval shifted from an extremely spacious and vast house in Iritty, Kannur to Kozhikode. The family then built a 1670 sq ft house in a 4 cents plot at Muthappanpara in Chevayoor, Kozhikode.

Johny was initially skeptical whether he could construct a comfortable house in the narrow plot which also had an uneven surface. He thus gave up his dream of building his home here. However, in the end, the family decided to construct a house in this plot itself. Soil was removed from one side of the plot and the house was built without disrupting the unique features of the land.

From the outside, this house looks like a single storied one. However, there is another floor on the lower level, which is hidden from the road. There are 3 bed rooms with attached bathrooms. The entrance to the house is from the level of the road.

There are 2 bedrooms and a living and prayer area on this floor. Large openings, covered with toughened glasses, lets in lots of natural light into this area. The family living room is arranged on the floor below. One has to climb the stair downwards to reach this space. The family loves to gather here as there is enough privacy.

This floor has a family living area, dining space, and a bedroom, kitchen with a breakfast counter, an adjoining work area and a beautiful patio. The bedroom is arranged on the side where there is an abundant supply of sunshine and fresh air. The construction of this elegant house was completed in 2017.

Johny and his family used to live in close contact with the nature at their house in Iritty. This nostalgic feeling is what motivated them to arrange an extremely charming garden on the terrace of their new house. This is the perfect place for family and friends to gather, and the roof here is made with polycarbonate sheet.

Had the house been built in an ordinary design it would have looked like a flat, without a front courtyard or a utility area. Enabling good ventilation was another challenge faced by the designer. The family says that it is the unique construction of the house that makes their abode special.

The lower floor is designed as a huge open space without building unnecessary walls. The spaces are separated by arranging the furniture in a creative manner. The guests are welcomed to the upper floor and therefore the family members can enjoy their privacy in the floor below it.
