Kunnamkulam native Gokul and his family had clear perceptions about their dream dwelling. They were particular that that their house should emanate a traditional charm with ample supply of natural light and fresh air in the interiors. Besides, the family wanted to build the house on a moderate budget.
The elegant house which has an area of 1750 sqft stands on an 8 cents plot. Truss work is done on flat roof and is paved with mud tiles which add a touch of heretagial ambience on the exteriors. Hot air is pushed outside through the roof and this helps maintain a cool and comfortable atmosphere inside the house. The mud tile paved over the window shades stands out as an elegant designer element. There is a living space, dining area, kitchen and three bedrooms in the house.
The house is designed according to the vastu rules prescribed by noted vastu expert Kanipayyoor. An excellent cross ventilation, as per the vastu rules, fills the indoors with positive energy, and it is quite palpable in this house as well. The interiors aren’t over-crowded with luxurious decor or furniture and the simplicity of it enhances the elegance of the house. Gokul admits that he has been able to save a considerable amount of money in the budget as he opted for simplicity in furnishing.
The ceiling is in double height above the stairway. Huge windows and skylights welcome lots of sunshine into the house. The bathrooms are bath attached. The kitchen and the work area have all the required facilities. The construction of the house, including the furnishing, was completed in just Rs 18 lakhs.
The factors which helped cut down the cost of construction:
» The building materials were mainly sourced from the locality
» Building the foundation wasn’t costlier as the surface of the plot is firm
» The construction was completed in just 8 months
» Lights points are directly installed without false ceiling
