Rules of the vastusastra play a major role in filling the homes with positive energy and prosperity. However, many doubt whether the same rules are applicable while constructing a house outside Kerala or whether it could be followed while purchasing a flat.
Experts say that the rules of vastu don’t change much with places. It is, however, important to build the house on a plot where the sun rays fall abundantly. The structure of the plot should be towards the east direction where the sun rises.
Slight changes in the spaces could be made according to the intensity and direction of the wind, rain or snow at each place. The structure of the plot is one of the most important features to be noted while building a house.
The agraharams (Tamil Brahmin neighborhoods with identical houses) in Palakkad and Tamil Nadu usually have common walls and lanes. However, each house has a separate entrance.
The only difference between agraharams and flats is that the former are arranged in a horizontal manner while the latter are high rise structures built perpendicularly. The vastu rules which are applicable to agraharams are the same for flats as well.
The height of the flat or building should be based on the 5 elements in the order of earth, water, fire, air and sky. The height of the building could end at the levels corresponding to all the elements except fire.
