A dream dwelling on just Rs 14 lakh, see what worked
A combination of white and yellow hues in the elevation lends a unique look to the house.

Shihab from Manjeri, Malappuram, wanted his dream home to be built on a limited budget. However, he was not ready to compromise with the design of the house either. It was finally architect Asar Juman who literally gave shape to the elegant house endowed with all the modern facilities, on the 6 cents plot. The house was built sparing several trees that stood at the location. The lush greenery eventually added a magical charm to the whole locale.

Tiny pebbles were paved on the front courtyard. The 1200 sq ft house has a sit-out, living and dining areas, 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms, kitchen and an adjacent work area. The owner was very particular that the exterior of the house should look elegant and stylish. A combination of white and yellow in the elevation has lent a unique look to the house. The interiors were designed in the themes of lighter shades.

Interiors looked more spacious and open as unnecessary walls have been avoided between spaces. The first landing of the stair way has been projected to the elevation of the house. The sunshades adjacent to the dining area too are projected to the outside. A sitting space has been arranged here. The wash area has been arranged below the stairway to effectively utilize the spaces.

The dining table, which can accommodate eight people, is made using GI frames and completed with paint finish. The two bedrooms in the house are bath attached.

These are the factors which helped keep a check on expenses:

» A simple flat roof elevation is one of the main features of the house. Red bricks and CRC were used for the construction

» The windows, doors, door frames, dining table and chairs are made using GI frames with paint finish

» Ceramic tiles which are comparatively cheaper are paved on the floor

» Light points are installed directly without adding false ceilings

» Doors and windows are primarily made of MDF and plywood

» V boards are used to make the wardrobes and shutters in bedrooms and kitchen

It was Shihab’s brother–in–law who oversaw the construction. He helped build the boundary wall and completed the industrial work as well. Shihab and his family are happy that they have built their dream dwelling, that too, on a moderate budget.
