Vajid Rehman is one designer-architect who specializes in chic designs. He has evolved a style of his own. His houses are eco-friendly, budget friendly and easy on land area. Here’s one such house designed in the typical style of the designer. The 2,400 sq ft house stands on 30 cents of land in Manjeri, Malappuram. The highlight, however, is that all this decorative exterior and utilitarian interior could be achieved on a strict budget of Rs 27 lakhs.
What gives the white-themed elevation its striking look are the cladding stones and the brick colored ceramic tiles.
The truss roof has a protective covering and the ceiling has been completed with terracotta floor tiles. To prevent water seepage on the exterior roof, it’s been painted with clear coat paint and the roofs too have been coated with the paint.
Another striking feature of the structure is the presence of rubwood inside and outside. Since the owner of the house runs a rubwood furniture unit, a lot of the wood has been used extensively all over the place.
Almost all the rooms have been designed in double height ceilings to bring in light and air inside to the maximum. The formal living, the dining and ladies living area, have been provided with split-level windows.
The glass-topped dining table can seat six quite comfortably. It’s from the dining are that the staircase winds up. The entire length of the stair area has been designed in GI box style. The handrails have been designed with rubwood and glass. The space below has been converted into a storage nook where items like the inverter have been kept.
The wall that separates the dining area from the ladies living space has an attractive design element. The TV unit finds space here and it can be turned either way, to the living space or the ladies area as per the convenience of viewers.
There are four bedrooms designed in all simplicity. They have been provided with attached bathrooms and wardrobes. Split-level windows have replaced air holes. The highlight of the bedrooms is their quaint design element. Their ceilings can be rearranged.
The simple, yet utilitarian kitchen comes in white and maroon themes. The cabinets here have been done up with rubwood, ply, MDF and paint finish.
The only embellishment upstairs is an inbuilt seating in rubwood.
To wind up, this is one house that’s rich in all natural elements like air, wind and light. The highlight, however, is Rs 27 lakhs with which the structure and the interiors were completed.
